Even as all love and hope clouds over
The sun will burn through from above to show ya’
Another day will dawn; another life is born
Out of ashes the phoenix will rise
Now I’m movin’ on, and I’m movin’ in
To face all of my feelings inside (Movin’ on)
Hit the road and drive towards the sunshine
Imagining just how I’ll feel, I’ll feel fine
Now I’m movin’ on; and I’m movin’ in
To face feelings is surely the start (Movin’ on)
Kicking down these doors, movin’ round these walls
Movin’ mountains to move my own heart
And I burst into the sun
The rest of life has just begun
Move the mountains then the sea
Feeling waves wash over me
Life’s so deep – was drowning in its ocean
The tidal wave burst in through my emotions
Breaking down these doors, movin’ round these walls
Movin’ mountains and drowning my heart (Movin’ on)
So much loneliness, so much emptiness
To move one step impossibly hard
Now I stand up to each day
With this strength I’m not afraid
The rest of life’s storms and the waves a’ crashing down
I can face and I will not drown
Goodbye loneliness, farewell emptiness
Movin’ one step is more than a start (Movin’ on)
Now I’m breaking free, seeing what can be
And this journey has got hold of me (Movin’ on)
Swimming out into the big blue ocean (Movin’ on)
Distant shores, the challenge of emotion (Movin’ on)
Now I’m living free, seeing what can be
On this journey is where I feel free (Movin’ on)
Goodbye loneliness, farewell emptiness
Movin’ one step is more than a start (Movin’ on)… Now I’m…

NOTES: Movin’ On is a song about fighting the course of depression: it tells the story as a journey from despair (perhaps born out of a failed relationship), the ensuing darkness, the crippling lethargy and the struggle towards seeing anything positive in the future. Having worked in mental health for several years, I wanted to put some of that experience - and my own personal insight - into a song that around a quarter of the UK's population, perhaps could identify with.
Though intense, and a disturbing subject, this song builds towards a positive outcome... Keep the faith... somehow... and keep movin' on!
